David A. Berenson, Partner (Retired)

Mr. Berenson was formerly Ernst & Young’s National Director of Tax Policy and Legislative Services, and previously Partner in Charge of Washington National Services. He has held similar positions as a Regional Director of Ernst & Ernst in New York. Prior thereto he was one of the Managing Executive Partners of the international firm of S.D. Leidesdorf and Co.

He is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia, Virginia, Florida, and New York and is a CPA in the District of Columbia, North Carolina, Louisiana and New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association and has served two terms as a member of the Governing Board or Council of the American Institute of CPAs. Mr. Berenson has frequently presented testimony before the House, Senate, Treasury, and Joint Congressional Committees with regard to present and proposed legislation. He was the lead witness at the commencement of the reform hearings in Washington leading to the current U.S. tax law, where he was also a Congressional advisor.

He has been a member of the Advisory Group to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and has been a United States National Reporter for the International Fiscal Association (Cahiers du Droit Fiscal Internationale). On behalf of IFA and International forums, Mr. Berenson has chaired and presented conferences on Treaty Competent Authority Procedures and Transfer Pricing and Multinational Cost Sharing Arrangements. He is currently an officer of the International Fiscal Association and a member of their operating Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Economic Club of New York.

Mr. Berenson’s academic background includes a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania, a Juris Doctor from New York Law School, and a Master of Laws from New York University Law School. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the New York University Graduate School of Business, and has also served as a member of the Advisory Board to the New York University Graduate School of Business, SCE and the New York University International Institute on Tax and Business Planning. He is a past member of the Advisory Panel of the American Institute of CPAs – University of Michigan Graduate School of Business National Program and is presently a member of the Tax Policy Board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

He has lectured at the New School for Social Research, Advanced Management Research, Practicing Law Institute, American Institute of CPAs, Real Estate Review Institute, NYU Stern School of Business, Corporate Financial Management, Executive Enterprises, Metropolitan President’s Organization and numerous professional, business and academic forums.

Mr. Berenson is the author of several publications and has contributed to numerous authoritative articles and interviews for business publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Fortune, Barron’s, Forbes, New York Law Journal, Boardroom Reports, Money, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News and World Report, Journal of Commerce, Business Week, and Financial World. He has been profiled by Forbes Magazine and The Dreyfus Report and has been a business consulting guest on the ABC Evening News, Good Morning America, the Dreyfus Round Table, The Jim Barry Financial Network, The Charlie Rose Show, and CNN, as well as various radio programs.

Mr. Berenson is a former Chairman of the Board of Wolf Trap, the U.S. National Park for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the American Ditchley Foundation with international forums in Oxford, U.K.
