Indiana: Already at the vanguard of the crackdown on unwanted telemarketing calls, Indiana officials are considering additional steps and amendments to existing law to reduce the number of auto-dialed telemarketing calls, which they claim has skyrocketed in 2012.
North Carolina: In a warning that contractors should be expecting increased worker reclassification audits, Governor Beverly Perdue has recently created the “Task Force on Employee Misclassification” “to enhance coordination and communication among various state agencies,” and “to identify effective mechanisms to combat unlawful practices like employee misclassification that harm workers.”
Washington: The Department of Labor & Industries recently announced for the second consecutive year that it is proposing no increase in the average rate for workers’ compensation insurance.
Various: Contractors boards in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Utah recently conducted enforcement operations targeting illegal Craigslist ads. NAPAC members are urged to have their marketing material reviewed by competent legal counsel. At a minimum, marketing material should include the full company name and license/registration number (if applicable).
